Let me just say that Spring has already arrived at 635 Island Park Drive. Beginning with the hot pink ‘fringe’ on the loropetalum shrubs and trees. Buds, blooms and singing birds are everywhere!

As I come down the stairs every morning at 635 Island Park Drive, and cross the foyer, this is the outside view I get. Through the arches, there’s bright morning sunlight. Palm trees. The lush 7th green. Pops of purple and yellow in the flower pots. I could go on and on, but you get it. Just another pretty morning with a pretty view out the front doors at 635.

It’s only cracking the surface. And, surely everyone’s fancy is different. Our list is in no particular order. Just off the cuff, 50 of our favorite reasons why we love living at 635 Island Park Drive. Enjoy!

1. Location location location. So convenient to all Daniel Island has to offer.
2. The views. The side porch at 635 is perfect for sipping wine and enjoying daily sunsets.
3. Backyard al fresca dining. You’ll swear you’re sitting at Giada’s table!
4. The wall around the garden and the creeping fig that’s nearly covering it.
5. Creeping fig. Period. Olde world meets contemporary.
6. The ice machines. Perfectly shaped and delicious ice. Available in both the butlery and theater.
7. Movie theater. What’s not to love?
8. The movie theater seats. Row 1 has lazy-boy type, Row 2 has traditional theater rockers.
9. Calling up any movie, anytime, anywhere.
10. Control 4 Smartness. With one remote, we can control lights, electronics, security, etc. Love this!
11. ALL OFF button. Before bed time, simply push it and know that everything’s as it should be for the night.
12. The bidet. Will never be able to live without one once you have one.
13. Washingtonian Palms. The happy palms at 635 have nearly doubled in size in four years. You won’t find nicer ones on Island Park Drive.
14. Gardenia shrubs. Oh the scent of gardenias in the spring!
15. Pierre Henri. That’s what we call our French warrior wall fountain in the garden. Love him!
16. Remote fireplaces. Easily we keep the thermostat at 68 in the winter because simply flicking a switch on any one of the fireplaces warms the place right up!
17. Wireless. Anywhere and everywhere inside and out, 635 just works.
18. Perfectly chilled cabernet.
19. The wine closet that makes #18 possible.
20. Master suite. Includes porch, sitting room, bedroom and bath.
21. His closet and her closet. Never minded sharing. Until we had our own that is…
22. Foyer floor. A gorgeous tic-tac-toe of exotic wood and travertine. They’re fantastic!
23. Cherry blossoms. By the end of this week, assuming the weather stays warm, it’ll be in full pink bloom. Spectacular!
24. Piazza. Every home in the Lowcountry should have one. It’s a tradition. We love hanging out on ours watching Daniel Island pass by.
25. Natural gas. You never have to fill a tank for the grill. It works perfectly every single time.
26. Topiaries. Even though they’re needing a good haircut and shaping, they’re nearly 12 feet tall already!
27. Storage. SO convenient! Right off the master suite WC. Shelving galore! Why it’s like our own personal Lowes.
28. Built ins. Can’t say enough. The more you have, the less furniture you need. Perfect!
29. Mouldings. Double, triple, quadruple. Want them, 635 has them. Lots of them. And they finish out any room beautifully.
30. Art lighting. We’re art collectors. Nothing especially valuable to anybody but us, but it’s nice that there are these tiny can lights that light up each piece.
31. Stainless steel. Sleek, clean and wipes up dandy.
32. Range hood. Custom made and oh, so powerful!
33. Master suite front porch. Watch the golfers on #7 and read the Sunday paper and sip coffee. All in your jammies.
34. Sub Zero and Wolf. Simply the best.
35. Savoy glass fixtures in kitchen. Their clear ‘watered’ glass domes give off the most gorgeous light in any kitchen we’ve ever seen.
35. Country Club pub. Of all the dining options at the club, this is our favorite. Delicious food, perfect service, and cozy atmosphere.
36. Copper Gas lanterns. High Battery Carolina Lanterns to be exact. They’ve aged beautifully!
37. The bat wing flame on the copper gas lanterns. Fabulous.
38. Loquat trees. 635′s are so happy. Just like the Washingtonians, they’ve doubled in size! Look out historic Charleston. These may just bypass you in years to come.
39. Paint. Rich, vibrant, historic colors adorn the walls bringing them to life.
40. Park Club. Just a hop, skip and jump to play tennis, workout and swim.
41. The Cabanna Bar. I promise you’ll feel like you’re on vacation while sipping a margarita just down the street.
42. The spritzer fans at the Cabanna Bar. Even in September’s heat, the temp is right nice cause of the fans.
43. Sidewalks, bridges and paths. So many places of beauty to discover on your daily walks.
44. Paris Flea Market chandelier in 635′s dining room. This is a thing too lovely to explain. Thanks to Crystorama for making it.
45. Publix. The nicest folks in town.
46. Joseph’s Coat Roses. Climbing the side porch a tie-dye of red, salmon and yellow. And man do they smell nice!
47. Arches. They’re everywhere at 635. Doors, entries, porches. It’s kind of a theme we have going.
48. Friends. Yes, Daniel Island is one of the friendliest places you’ll find. If you’re just visiting, you won’t want to leave.
49. Inside/Outside living. Open up those seven sets of mahogany doors and 635 IPD doubles in size! It’s a perfect home for entertaining.
50. Community. Simply the best. Really, there’s no need to leave this place. If Dorothy had been from here she’d claim, “there’s no place like home.”

What’s in a color? (Part 3)

Well who knew? Where did Sherwin Williams come up with the Colors of Historic Paint Palette? The well known paint company developed these colors from painstaking research at the Nathaniel Russel House. They ‘removed and analyzed 27 coats of paint to discover the original 1808 colors’. Amazing! The research also showed that ‘Charlestonians of that age were not afraid of color and, rather than muted, pastel colors usually associated with grand homes, used brilliant, rich colors in their houses. The palette echoes an era of exceptional architecture, decorative arts and garden designs’. All of the paint colors in 635 Island Park Drive are from this palette. Colors called Oyster Shell, Pecan Shell, Aunt Betty’s China, Sullivan’s Dune, and Cornmeal. These rich colors reflect Charleston’s worldly sophistication, Southern charm, and of course, 635 IPD!
